Rest as Resistance

Depth Listener

Affirmation ~ “I trust what's beneath the surface.”

August Greetings!

As we step fully into August, I have been reflecting on my internal work around the idea of rest and how it has become a privileged commodity. The pace of our world teaches us to measure our worth in exhaustion. Rest has become a privilege in many cultures, one not accessible to all due to systemic oppression, survival demands, and generational trauma. Over the years, my guides have shown me that rest is not always easy. That it is not always available, and for many, it is not safe to rest. They have reminded me that if I can rest, even for a moment, it becomes a prayer for those who cannot. I've been listening to this month's song by Tricia Hersey on repeat. One of the lines is “only our collective rest will save us.” It's really striking a cord. What if my rest today makes space for someone else to take a sacred pause and exhale tomorrow?

The idea that rest is radical and necessary is mirrored in the cosmos this month. I love to tune into the astrological weather as a way to ground me in the energy of the time and as an honoring to my vibrant ancient ancestors who were sky-readers. This month's energy opened with cosmic tension between drive and depth, Mars urging movement, Saturn insisting on stillness. This tension reminded me of how western culture often mistakes busy-ness for success, but this month it's clear in the cosmic wisdom: rest is not optional. It’s essential.

I've been shown that early August can be approached as a pulse-check: slow down, feel deeply, don’t force progress. As we hit the mid-month, Venus's and Jupiter's grace invites creative rest, joy, and gentle loving. And by late-month, Virgo energy supports planning, clarity, and embodied reset. This energetic wisdom has been asking me to embody the idea that slowing down is not about failing; it's about renewal.

So this month, what if rest was resistance? What if saying “no” was sacred? What if listening to your body was the most radical act of self‑care? I'd love to hear from you! Drop me an email!

Much love to you and your spirit,

Sara
